Nandamuri KalyanRam tastes success (and a big one this time around) with his latest movie Pataas where he plays a rogue cop. While the plot is predictable and the songs are mediocre (except a couple), the comedy part of the movie and KalyanRam’s performance makes up for the movie to turn into a big grosser for this season. Definitely a big movie both in terms of success and audience’s satisfaction.

Shruti Sodhi has KalyanRam’s love interest brings decent glamour quotient to the movie. Ashutosh Rana as the antagonist does justice to his role while Srinivas Reddy, Posani and others do their bit to keep the audience in splits.

Due credit should be given to Anil Ravipudi who dabbled in the direction department for movies like Aagadu and Kandireega for churning out a delightful dish for Nandamuri fans. Dialogues are crisp and the screenplay is decent for a first-time director.

Kalyan (KalyanRam) enters Hyderabad as an ACP and gains popularity as a corrupt cop. He intentionally starts partnering criminals to be a cause of big worry to the DGP (Sai Kiran) until one strong incident changes his attitude and brings out the rouge turned honest cop out of him.

Why is he anti-DGP? What is that incident that changes him and what does he do to win his love and more importantly himself in the eyes of public, forms the rest of the story.

Nandamuri KalyanRam’s performance and screen presence.

Comedy has been integrated into the movie.

    Crisp Dialogues

Dance performance in Balayya’s remake song ‘Arey O Samba.’

    Its a predictable movie.

Love plot between the hero and heroine.

MRPF (mother’s Rapid Protection Force) scenes are a big draw in the second half.

Late M. S. Narayana is limited to few scenes but ensures his strong presence is felt.

‘Arey O Samba’ song has people in the theatre’s empty the chairs, thanks to Balayya’s touch to the song.

Patas is a full-length entertainer blended with all kinds of commercial elements. Kalyanram is back with a bang and it’s a must watch.

    TollywoodAndhra Rating: 3.5/5
