• 2015 Top 10 Telugu Films

It has been a mixed first half of 2015 for Telugu film industry. The movies released in this period were good, mediocre and prety bad when they hit the cinemas near us. Here are the Top 10 movies that grabbed our attention in the first half of 2015.

    1. Gopala Gopala

A decade earlier, when the egos of the fanatics took over the industry and it seemed that multi-starrer films were extinct in Telugu industry, Victory Venkatesh did what any hero would never have dreamt of. Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu proved that it is possible to blend two forces into a script and generate magic. The same formula has been adapted by Kishore Kumar Pardasany with te cast comprising Victory Venkatesh as an atheist and Power Star Pawan Kalyan as the god.  Produced by Suresh Daggubati and Sharath Marrar, Gopala Gopala is an official remake of the Hindi super hit Oh my god! directed by Umesh Shukla. Standing true to it’s original,  Kishore Kumar Pardasany did justice to this satirical comedy. Venkatesh excels as an atheist and proves yet again that he can blend into any character. Pawan Kalyan on the other hand just needed a screen space. He is already a god to many and was a perfect casting to this role. A must watch if you love comedy, Venky and Powerstar Pawan Kalyan.

    2. PATAAS

Directed by the Debutant Anil Ravipudi, PATAAS opened this year’s quota of hit movies for the Telugu Film Industry. The story revolves around the story of a corrupt Police Officer and his Journalist Girl friend. The secret behind the success of this movie is the way the director treats the characters. It is a perfect Instant noodle recipe which has story for a bland uncooked noodles & the taste maker consisting equal amounts of Glam, comedy and action sequences. It’s been ages since Kalyanram had some commercial success and this is a boon for him.  Looking for a good time pass on a boring weekend. You can count on it for some entertainment.

    3. Malli malli idi rani roju

It’s been ages since we saw a Love story without a violence in Telugu films. MMIRR not only breaks this scarcity but brings a fresh feel to Telugu movie lovers with a pure love story. The movie sounds like poetry on screen with fantastic writing with writer-director Kranti Madhav, decent performances from Sharwanand, Nitya Menon and wonderful music by Gopi Sundar. Though loaded with some Telugu movie stereotypes, the movie is a good watch.

    4. Temper

Last time I saw NTR giving his best as an actor was in the role of Young Yama in the movie Yama Donga (2007). Neither he has had a good hit nor a performance worth his name till date. NTR as DAYA in Temper is such a role which his fans and the audience of Telugu Cinema would like to see more and more on screen. Playing  the role of a spineless & corrupt police officer, NTR surpasses all his performances till date. Furious, Irritated and Outrageous are the feelings that he brings out in you in the first half of the movie. He just takes your revenge on DAYA in the second half of the movie with his timing and screen presence. Temper is a movie which you would never like to miss if you are looking for an entertaining and gripping action thriller.

    5. Surya vs Surya

Surya ( Nikhil) has a rare hereditary disorder called Porphyria. He can’t see a broad day light as it can kill him. His mom takes care of him to make sure he doesn’t see the day light. He falls in love with a Television host and chooses not to tell her about his rare disease.  Supported by Tanikella Bharani and satya, Surya vs Surya is a dream debut for director Karthik Ghattamaneni who is also known for his Cinematography for Karthikeya. This is a good Rom-com for your weekend. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed for sure.

    6. Yevade Subrahmanyam

March marked yet another remarkable debut and this time, from the house of Vijayanthi movies, this adventure film Yevade subrahmaynam directed by the debutant Nag Ashwin starring Nani, Ritu Verma, Vijay Deverakonda & telugu debutante Malavika Nair. This movie showcases few talents and proves that Telugu film industry has not shortage of good actors. Nani is excellent as Subrahmanyam as usual but Vijay Deverakonds steals the show. No one would remember this guy from Life is Beautiful  but he will be remembered for this character for a long time. Malavika Nair does what she was supposed to and is beautiful opposite Nani. This is the first Telugu film to be shot at Everest Base camp and it has stunning visuals. Own an LED television? This movie will make you happy for the bucks you spent on the TV. Music by Maestro Illayaraja is a bonus.

    7. S/o Satyamurthy

Not often we get to see movies dedicated to dad’s and based on Dad and son relationships. No surprise, such movies make good money at the box office. Let it be Bommarillu or Surya S/o Krishnan, they all touched our hearts. S/o Satyamurthy is such story which has some well written dialogues, subtle acting by the cast and good songs from Devi Sri Prasad. Allu Arjun proves once again that he has evolved into an actor finally and has no limits. A must watch for those who love good writing. Satyamurthy and his son won’t disappoint you for sure.

    8. Asura

Nara Rohith is often called Abhay Deol of Tollywood by the way he choses his scripts. Asura is one such film which is a bit hatke from the regular commercial cop stories. Rohith plays DHARMA, a sincere jailer who has a problem with psychotic convict. The movie is a good thriller and serves good experience. Asura would be a movie to watch if you are just bored of regular commercial flicks. This movie is directed by debutant Krishna Vijay and the music is composed by the very talented Sai Kartheek.

    9. Jyothi Lakshmi

Jyothi Lakshmi marks as the comeback film for Charmme. This time she delivers a hit with a powerful role penned and directed by  Puri Jagannath. The accolades and praises for this movie is all the worth. Charmme plays the title role of Jyothi Lakshmi, a prostitute turned house wife fighting with her past for her future. Charmme delivers a good performance. Satyadev Kancharana acts opposite Charmme and delivers a good performance too. He is an actor to look after. Jyothi Lakshmi made good money.

    10. Tiger

Last but not the least on my list is Sundeep Kishan, Rahul Ravindran and Seerat Kapoor Starrer Tiger. The story is of two friends in which one of them is adopted and raised to a software engineer. The two friends meet after a long time, meet a girl, fight for her and part ways because of her. Now, did they become friends again and who gets the girl is the rest of the story. Written and directed by the debutant I.V. Anand, the movie is a mixture of comedy and some decent performances by the lead trio. A good watch on your weekend.

PS: This list contains the Telugu films released till June 2015.
