Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who staged a fast-unto-death dharna cum yoga camp at New Delhi few months ago, demanding the Government to unearth the black money from Swiss banks, has been forcibly shunted to his Ashram in Uttaranchal. Ever since, IT and ED departments keep an eye on his Trust members and their activities. Baba Ramdev’s multi crore business of Ayurvedic products, the yoga camps conducted by him through his Patanjali Yoga Peet and Divya Yoga Trusts, attracts the Government and thus the IT department has served notices to him demanding to pay rs.5.14 crores as service tax for his yoga services, which comes under commercial activities because he is collecting huge amounts for it. However, the Trust argues that the yoga classes have exemption from service tax, so they need not to pay any amount.
But, the question is why the Government has spared him from paying service tax all these years and why the Baba also believes that his services can be exempted from service tax?
